  1. Open My Computer.

  2. Open Control Panel.

  3. Open Network.

  4. In the window that pops up, the following two things need to be installed:
    • Dial-Up Adaptor
    • TCP/IP (it may be called TCP/IP --> Dial-Up Adaptor)

    You may also have Client for Microsoft Networks and/or Windows Family Logon. Those two are ok. Remove any AOL Adaptors and VPN adaptors. To do that, select the adaptor you want to remove, and click the Remove button in the middle of the screen.

  5. Next, click once on TCP/IP and then click the Properties button on the right side of the window. If you get a warning window that says "You have asked to changed settings for a TCP/IP dial-up adaptor..." click OK.

  6. After you have clicked the properties button, you should get the window below. Make sure there is a dot next to Obtain an IP address automatically. Next, click the WINS Configuration tab at the top.

  7. Make sure a dot is next to Disable WINS Resolution. Now click the Gateway tab at the top.

  8. Everything should be blank. If there is something listed in the Installed Gateways area, it will look like a number with four periods separting the numerals. For example: 192.168.0.1. If a number is listed there, click once on it to highlight it, and then click the Remove button. After all necessary changes are made, click the DNS Configuration tab at the top.

  9. Make sure you have a dot next to Disable DNS. Click OK.

  10. That should take you back to your first Network window. If you are missing any of the adaptors listed below, continue on, if you have all you need, click OK. If you made any changes, you will need to restart your computer. After you click OK in the Network window, you computer will ask you to restart, click Yes.
