Configure Windows 98 Dial-Up Settings

  1. Double-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop.

  2. Double-click the Dial-Up Networking icon.

  3. Double-click Make New Connection, or click Next if prompted.

  4. Enter your ISP name for the Name of the computer you are dialing.
  5. Be sure your modem is selected in the Select a device field. If not, select it now then click Next.

  6. Enter your local access number then click Next.

  7. Click Finish.

    *NOTE: Depending on your current system configuration, you may be promted to install the Dial-Up Network Adapter. If so, click OK to install. (You may be prompted to insert your Win95/98 disk(s).)

  8. Back in your Dial-Up Networking window, right-click on the dial-up connection you just created and click on Create Shortcut. A window will pop up that says, Windows cannot create a short-cut here, would you like to place it on the desktop? Click Yes.

  9. To dial, double-click the dial-up icon you just created, enter your account name in the space labeled User Name, enter your password in the space labeled Password, then click Connect.
